Counting on city textbook

A MATH textbook popular in Shanghai will be published in the UK this year, said its publisher, East China Normal University Press. The book “Yi Ke Yi Lian” — “One Lesson, One Exercise” — has been an essential part of math teaching in Shanghai schools for two decades. Some changes will be made to the British version to integrate with the curriculum there. This is part of Britain’s efforts to learn from Shanghai’s math teaching methods after city students ranked top in the 2012 math exam of Program for International Student Assessment. Shanghai math teachers have also been on exchanges to British schools.
