Couple found hanging in grove

A COUPLE was found hanging in a grove in Qingpu District yesterday following a bitter family quarrel that turned deadly, police said.
The fight took place in their rented apartment in Minhang District during which the 11-year-old daughter was hit on the head by a hammer by her stepfather.
The girl survived the trauma after being rushed to the hospital early morning yesterday by her relatives.
Medical examination revealed a deep dent of more than one centimeter in the skull. Doctors at Shanghai Children’s Hospital, where the girl is being treated, said she had to go through an urgent surgery.
The girl sought help from her relatives on her own after the incident at home. Li Sijia, the girl’s cousin, said her family was shocked to see the girl at their doorstep around midnight with a numb look on her face, blood on her head and swollen lips. “She said she tried to stop her stepfather who was beating her mother, but was hit instead on the head,” Li said.
The man reportedly had a short temper. Police was still investigating and had no other details about their death.
