Couple who sold fake drugs jailed
A husband and wife who sold fake and unlicensed “Viagra-style” drugs on the Internet have been sentenced to jail.
Jing’an District People’s Court said the husband surnamed Du was jailed for eight months behind bars, while his wife surnamed Xu was sentenced to two months in jail, with a two-month reprieve.
They were also fined a total of 6,000 yuan (US$880).
The couple started to drum up business from men suffering sexual dysfunction on the popular retail site Taobao last August. One customer found the drugs didn’t work and reported the matter to police.
The defendants were caught at their rental residence last October, and police seized more than 1,300 unlicensed pills. The accused admitted they had earned 3,538 yuan from their illegal business.
