Courier fails to meet delivery claws
THOUSANDS of hairy-crab-eaters across the country will have to go without their favorite delicacy after one of China’s leading courier companies said yesterday it would be unable to meet its delivery commitments.
Shenzhen-based SF Express, which according to its website had 340,000 employees and 16,000 vehicles around the world as of July, explained its failure to fulfill the orders by saying it had received more than expected.
“Delays are inevitable,” an employee, who declined to give her name, told Shanghai Daily yesterday.
The problem was caused by a spike in online orders due to the lower prices of the crustacean, the person said. She did not explain why the company continued to accept orders after it became clear it would be unable to deliver them on time.
Priority is being given to customers based in Shanghai, and neighboring Zhejiang and Jiangsu provinces, though even they should expect a delay, she said.
Local crab-eater Yu Qian said he was very disappointed with the service he had received.
“I ordered a box of live crabs via JD.com on Wednesday and was promised they would be delivered within two days,” he said.
“It’s now been four days, so I reckon all the crabs are already dead,” he said.
