Courier held for stealing packages
A deliveryman has been detained for allegedly stealing packages from delivery stations and fellow workers, Shanghai police said yesterday.
The packages he allegedly stole after the Singles Day shopping spree last year were worth at least 80,000 yuan (US$13,000), police said.
Police in Xuhui District received theft reports at delivery stations on Luocheng and Longwu roads in November.
Among the items stolen were 30 mobile phones and iPads.
A month later a deliveryman reported to the police at Lingyun Road Police Station that his e-bike loaded with packages were missing when he was delivering a package in a residential complex.
The theft was caught on surveillance camera, and the suspect, a man surnamed Fan, was later tracked down by the police.
Fan blamed gambling debts for stealing. Another person, who helped Fan to sell the stolen goods, has also been detained, police said.
