Court undecided on unfair competition case

A LAWSUIT filed by the owners of dianping.com for alleged unfair competition against search engine provider Baidu Inc and Shanghai Jietu Software Technology Co was heard at Pudong New Area People’s Court yesterday.

Shanghai Hantao Information Consulting Co, which owns the lifestyle information website, is seeking 460,000 yuan (US$71,000) in compensation from the two companies for the unauthorized use of its images and user comments.

Hantao claims the materials were used on Baidu Map and Baidu Post Bar, and on city8.com, which is owned by Shanghai Jietu, to promote food delivery services.

Hantao had filed its initial lawsuit, in which it demanded 90 million yuan in compensation, with the Shanghai No. 1 People’s Intermediate Court in 2014. No decision was reached yesterday.
