Crackdown on waste smuggling
LOCAL customs officials launched the second round of a campaign to crack down on the illegal importing of poorly sorted or dirty shipments of recyclable waste last Friday.
Smuggling in such waste materials — which are used for manufacturing processes or as recycled electronics products — poses a serious problem for China as they are a major cause of pollution.
The General Administration of Customs of China began its latest crackdown on smuggled foreign waste, including industrial wastes and e-waste, at the beginning of last month.
A total of 75 officers of the local authority participated in Friday’s action.
