Crawfish restaurant closed after suspected food poisoning
A POPULAR crawfish restaurant in Yangpu District has been closed by officials as customers fell ill with suspected food poisoning.
Yangpu District Market Supervision Administration said it received a tip-off that many diners at Zheng Wen Qi Crawfish Donburi in Wujiaochang area suffered diarrhea afterward.
Initial investigations found seven people who ate the donburi — meat on a bed of rice — were hospitalized with symptoms including stomachache, vomiting and diarrhea.
All recovered and have since gone home, market supervision staff said.
The restaurant chain, which only offers crawfish donburi, has proved hugely successful — less than a month after its first branch opened.
The first Zheng Wen Qi Crawfish Donburi opened on July 16, and has since been followed by 10 more outlets.
Long queues have formed at its branches and diners often have to wait more than an hour to get a table during lunch and dinner time.
Market supervision officials did not say when the restaurant could reopen. An investigation is ongoing.
On dianping.com restaurant review website, over 100 comments out of 190 under the restaurant’s page said that they had experienced similar symptoms after eating there.
