Cross road landscaping
THE Pudong New Area is revamping the landscaping at 2,953 roads junctions, 490 of which will undergo a total facelift.
According the environmental bureau of Pudong, the open spaces at cross roads have long been overlooked in previous beautification efforts.
“We want to provide a space with views for pedestrians while they are waiting at the traffic lights,” explained Du Jun, deputy director of the district’s environment bureau.
A “pocket park” was recently completed at the junction of Yingchun and Hehuan Roads. The park features trees such as maple, foxtail and European smoketree. At the junctions of Fushan and Qixia Roads where illegal construction and other obstructions used to block the path of pedestrians, mini gardens with paths have been built. Residents said the gardens’ plants have improved the environment around the neighborhood.
