Dashcam footage to be used as evidence
SHANGHAI Public Security Bureau said yesterday that footages from dashboard camera can be used as evidences for violating traffic rules from the first half this year.
Yu Lie, deputy director general of the bureau, told Shanghai Radio Station yesterday that new methods of collecting evidences have been studied, and images captured by dashcams installed on public transport vehicles can now be used by traffic police as evidences.
Some of the public buses have already been fitted with dashcams.
“Images recorded on dashcam can serve as evidences and can be put into practice use,” Yu said.
Some of the ambulances have also been fitted with the cameras. Traffic police have already started issuing penalties based on the footages gathered from buses and ambulances.
Yu said state-owned vehicles will also be fitted with the dashcams although he gave no date when it would be done.
Until now, only footages from surveillance cameras and digital cameras carried by traffic police officers were used as evidence to fine violators.
