Dead man’s family sued by hospital
A CITY hospital is demanding compensation from two men who damaged facilities in its intensive care unit after their relative died during emergency treatment last October.
The men, surnamed Wang and Ye, smashed medical equipment, a computer and furniture and destroyed documents at the Shanghai Shuguang Hospital last October, when their 21-year-old relative from Zhejiang Province, who had inflamed kidneys, died.
The hospital told the Huangpu District People’s Court the pair also demanded that doctors kneel in front of the dead man’s body.
Their behavior disrupted hospital order and endangered nine patients in the ICU, the hospital’s attorney told the court.
The hospital is demanding 17,210 yuan (US$2,753) in compensation.
