Dealer gets 15 years in drug sales

A DEALER who packaged drugs in bamboo charcoal and delivered the parcel from Shanghai to a client in north China's Liaoning Province was sentenced to 15 years in prison and fined 50,000 yuan (US$7,837), the Baoshan District People's Court said yesterday.

Prosecutors said the convict, surnamed Jiang, sold 60 grams of methamphetamine, also known as "ice," to a drug addict in Huludao City in Liaoning last November and took 25,000 yuan in return.

Jiang said he met his clients through online chat rooms and delivered drugs to them via an express company.

Police caught Jiang on November 29 and seized more than 88 grams of various drugs and scales at his home in Dahua area in Baoshan, the court heard.

New standards for delivery services that took effect in May ruled that express companies can decline to deliver parcels when senders refuse to have them checked. But it is not compulsory for the companies to check parcels.
