Death sentence for wife-killer
THE Shanghai No. 1 Intermediate People's Court yesterday sentenced Qiu Jianhua, who killed his wife after she asked for a divorce, to death with a reprieve of two years. Qiu was ordered to pay 480,000 yuan (US$70,330) to her family.
The couple were married in January 2004 and Qiu said they had a good relationship. But his wife told him a year ago she had fallen in love with a man she met on the Internet. Qiu electrocuted her while she was asleep last April 18, then tried to commit suicide by slashing his wrists but was discovered by his parents.
