Decathlon, Emmelle bikes not up to grade
LOCAL quality watchdog has come across substandard products, including leather shoes, textbooks, sportswear and bicycles, and involving famous brands like Decathlon and Emmelle, during a routine check at factories.
Decathlon's 660mm bicycles for women did not have bicycle reflectors, while the 610mm bicycles for women from Emmelle were found to have serious quality problem with their handlebars, which were broken, the Shanghai Quality and Technical Supervision Bureau said yesterday.
Bureau officials reminded customers to have a trial ride of these bicycles before buying them to make sure all parts are functioning well. They should also be alert to any abnormal sounds emanating from the bikes while riding.
Leather shoes produced by Kangyi Shoe Co Ltd in Wenzhou, Zhejiang Province, and Shanghai Qiaoyi Trade Co Ltd were found to have quality problems that could sprain the ankles of people wearing them or even cause them to fall, officials said.
Three batches of sportswear produced by two Shanghai companies and a Beijing company had problems with their fiber content, while two textbooks had unclear or missing characters and page errors.
None of these products made it to the stores since the flaws were detected before they could hit the market, the bureau said.
Meanwhile, the bureau also confiscated a number of toys being sold at the Shanghai Science and Technology Museum yesterday because they did not have compulsory certification mark and producer information.
