Decathlon in 47,000-scooter safety recall

DECATHLON is recalling more than 47,000 scooters due to safety concerns, the city’s quality watchdog said yesterday.
The company is recalling Oxelo Town 7 EF and Town 9 EF scooters made between December 1, 2012 and July 1, 2016, according to its recall plan submitted to the Shanghai Quality and Technical Supervision Bureau.
The recall started on Monday and 47,061 products on the mainland are listed in the recall plan, the bureau said.
A clamp on the handle bar is too short and can crack and break when these scooters are used very frequently and intensively, and could cause accidents, sportswear chain Decathlon said in the recall plan.
The scooter’s design did not take into account some users’ high frequency and intensive use, it said.
Consumers can take the scooters to nearby Decathlon outlets, which will replace the clamp for free to fix the problem.
If the repair fails to eliminate safety hazards, the company will refund consumers or provide a new machine. Information is on Decathlon’s website or on its 4009-109-109 hotline.
