Deliberate accidents netted bus driver cash
A BUS driver deliberately got involved in road accidents in order to pocket the compensation, judges said yesterday.
Judges of the Yangpu District People's Court accused the driver, surnamed Bian, of disregarding his passengers safety to make extra cash.
He was sentenced to three years in prison with probation of three years after being found guilty of threatening public security.
Bian, an employee of Bashi Co, discovered that when a minor prang occurred, bus drivers would receive cash compensation from the responsible party at the scene.
He deliberately let his vehicle be hit on six occasions between June 2008 and January 2010, had the bus repaired in private and pocketed the amount left over. The scam netted him 2,000 yuan (US$303).
Bian was caught after the company examined global position system data.
