Depressed mother ‘kills’ baby
A WOMAN believed to be suffering from postnatal depression has been arrested on suspicion of suffocating her 3-month old daughter, Shanghai Television reported yesterday.
Police were called to a property in the village of Wa’an in the Pudong New Area about 9:30am on Wednesday where they found the baby’ lifeless body, the report said.
The infant’s 29-year-old mother, surnamed Tang, is a native of central China’s Hunan Province and has been working in Shanghai for more than three years. She lives with her partner surnamed Gong who told police she had been taking anti-depressants after the birth of their child.
The drugs had made her irritable, he said, but he had not been overly concerned about her mental health.
