Detention for faking car plate
A woman was given a 15-day detention for faking a Shanghai car plate after police were tipped off by another motorist.
The woman, surnamed Wang, owned a car plate registered in neighboring Jiangsu Province. To avoid the city’s peak-hour bans on non-local plate cars using elevated roads, Wang covered part of her plate with specially made magnets with the character hu, or Shanghai, making it look like a local plate.
Police traced Wang’s car from surveillance camera footage, and found the magnets in the car.
Wang, who works in a company in Pudong’s Zhangjiang area, told police that she was aware she had behaved illegally, but “didn’t expect it to be this serious.”
Police said yesterday Wang would be given a 15-day detention and be fined 6,000 yuan (US$873) for forging a car plate and violating the elevated way peak-hour regulations. She would have 27 demerits on her license.
