Discount tickets for scenic spots

FIFTY-EIGHT scenic spots across the city will offer half-price tickets on May 19 to mark China Tourism Day, officials announced yesterday.

Attractions on the list include Shanghai’s iconic Oriental Pearl TV Tower, Shanghai Science and Technology Museum, Shanghai Jinmao Tower, Jinjiang Amusement Park, and Shanghai Ocean Aquarium.

Parks such as Chenshan Botanical Garden and Shanghai Gongqing Forest Park and water towns such as Zhujiajiao and Xinchang are also included.

It has become a tradition for major scenic spots in the city to offer half-price tickets during the annual Shanghai Tourism Festival, partly in response to complaints that they are prohibitively expensive.

On half-price days in the past, the number of visitors has doubled or tripled at many attractions.

Meanwhile, the Shanghai World Travel Fair 2016 will open on the same day.

The event, to be held at the Shanghai Exhibition Center, will feature exhibitors from 50 countries and attract an estimated 60,000 visitors, the Shanghai Tourism Administration said yesterday.
