Disney products fail watchdogs' quality tests
DISNEY products were among the 10 percent of children's clothes, shoes and toys that failed recent quality tests, city watchdogs said yesterday.
The Shanghai Industrial and Commercial Administrative Bureau and the Shanghai Bureau of Quality and Technical Supervision carried out inspections in the run-up to Children's Day tomorrow, with both organizations uncovering similar problems.
Officials said some clothes tested may cause skin allergies, as they had a higher pH index than the country's standard. A pair of Roberta di Camerino children's pants was found to have a pH index of 8.4, well above the 7.5 upper permitted limit, said the industrial and commercial bureau.
Durability was another problem. According to the quality and technical bureau, a pair of Disney children's shoes produced in Guangdong Province had soles that were easily broken.
No one was available for comment at Disney Shanghai yesterday.
Some toys were also hazardous, officials said.
A Deyixiaozi shape shifting toy sold at the Quyang branch of E-Mart was found to have a sharp point which could injure children.
Some toys for children - including a Linyubao bath toy - said to be for children aged between three to six contained small parts, which a child could choke on.
Products that failed to meet standards have been removed from shop shelves, officials said.
