Disney’s name ‘abused’

A woman accused of using Shanghai Disney’s name to swindle victims of more than 5 million yuan (US$719,685) is facing a charge of fraud, said Pudong prosecutors.
The suspect surnamed Xu, 41, falsely claimed she was a good friend of high-ranking officials with Shanghai Disney Resort, prosecutors said. She claimed her close ties could help her to get big discounts in buying and renting shops around the Disney complex that would reap huge profits. From 2014 to March 2016, 80 investors fell victim to her scam, being ripped off more than 3 million yuan in down payments, prosecutors said.
