City's divorce rate drops 10% in H1
A TOTAL of 25,764 couples, at least one of whom is from Shanghai, divorced in the first half of this year — a drop of about 10 percent compared with the same period last year, the Shanghai Civil Affairs Bureau said. A total of 60,825 couples with at least one Shanghai partner divorced in 2013, up 37 percent from a year earlier, the largest jump in recent years. Marriage experts said a rush of people seeking a divorce to escape paying new taxes on their second homes, and different attitudes among those born after 1980 were behind that increase.
