Downtown streets to close for a parade on Sunday

A section of the busy Huaihai Road M. will be closed to motorists on Sunday evening.

A few streets nearby will also be affected due to the parade of floats that will launch this year’s Shanghai Tourism Festival.

From 5pm to 10:30pm on Sunday, most of the streets within the closure area of Yan’an Road, Xizang Road S., Taicang Road and Huangpi Road S. will give priority to pedestrians.

Bus routes that run through these streets will be diverted.

Vehicles won’t be entirely banned from streets with which the closed section of Huaihai Road M. connects, but they won’t be able to enter or cross the main road.

Meanwhile, from 5pm to 9:30pm on Sunday, vehicles may be banned from using Jinling Road M. between Xizang Road S. and Huangpi Road S. and Changle Road between Chongqing Road M. and Shaanxi Road S., police said on Monday.

Also the off-ramp to Huaihai Road M. from the North-South Elevated Road will be closed 7:30pm to 10:30pm on Sunday.

Longmen Road between Jinling Road M. and Huaihai Road M. will be closed from this Thursday to 5am next Monday.

Furthermore all vehicles will be banned from Huaihai Road M. between Xizang Road S. and Chongqing Road S. and Liulin Road between Jinling Road M. and Taicang Road from 8:30pm on Friday to 1am on Saturday.

The traffic bans will be subject to changes, police said.

The parade of 25 floats will start from 7:30pm on Sunday.

The 2017 Shanghai Tourism Festival will be held from September 10 to October 6.
