Driver of cash truck jailed for stealing

AN armored truck driver was sentenced to six years in jail and fined 200,000 yuan (US$32,161) by the Zhabei District People’s Court.
The 29-year-old driver, surnamed Xiao, had run up huge gambling debts and in January worked out a plan to steal money from his own truck.
Xiao tampered with the back door of the cash truck when his colleagues were away collecting money from a bank. Then, under a pretext of fixing the broken door, he was able to access the cash kept in the vehicle.
He fled to Nanjing after stealing 1,100,000 yuan.He later surrendered to the police after being persuaded by his family members.
