Driverless vehicles on call at Jiabei park

VISITORS to Jiabei countryside park will be able to use driverless vehicles to see the sights.

The first phase of the countryside park in Jiading District is scheduled to open in September. The park will feature a large rice farm, bamboo forest, a sea of lavender and a grape orchard.

The park has 17 bridges, three boulevards composed of plants with colored foliage, such as maple and tallow trees, and a wisteria corridor. The first phase covers more than 7 square kilometers.

And when the park opens, 30 “ClubCar” vehicles will be on standby, including 10 driverless vehicles.

The sightseeing route at the first phase of the park stretches about 6.5 kilometers, and the driverless vehicles will cover about 2km of the route. They will follow certain routes and stop automatically, and tourists can get on and off at any stop they want.

The driverless vehicles nuse a number of techniques such as radar, GPS and computer vision to detect surroundings. They can respond to unexpected situations such as pedestrians rushing onto the road and other vehicles suddenly changing lanes.
