Drivers go to jail for embezzling diesel fuel
THREE truck drivers have been sentenced up to two years in prison for embezzling diesel fuel while driving trucks for their company.
Judges of the Jiading District People's Court said the court will handle about 20 similar cases since almost all of the 24 drivers at Yongxin Concrete Co were found to have stolen diesel fuel.
The drivers sped up the odometer to match the amount of fuel they were claiming to have put in the tanks. They then sold on the surplus fuel on many occasions between 2009 and June 2010, judges said.
The company lost about 500,000 yuan (US$75,529) due to the embezzlement in the first half of this year and the losses it incurred last year haven't been calculated, Yongxin told the court.
Yongxin produces and sells concrete and mortar - it owns 16 mixer trucks and employs 24 drivers.
Its manager received an anonymous tip in June about the embezzlement and an investigation was launched.
They compared the mileage recorded by the GPS system in the trucks with that shown on the odometers. Yongxin was amazed to find the mileage on the odometers was much higher and almost every driver had stolen fuel.
