Drivers prosecuted for racing at 190kph
TWO drivers who allegedly raced on Middle Ring Elevated Road, going at more than twice the speed limit, have been prosecuted for dangerous driving in Changning District.
Police investigation showed that at 2:24pm on July 16, a man surnamed Lin, at the wheel of an Infinity car, chased a Porsche car driven by a professional racer surnamed Zhang, prosecutors said.
Lin’s passenger, surnamed Chen, used a mobile phone to record the process and uploaded the results onto the Internet, which triggered wide media attention and alerted police.
Video showed they changed lanes illegally and overtook other cars at high speed — clocking up more than 190 kilometers per hour.
Lin’s wife, surnamed Li, Yang Zhengxing, who had originally claimed to be the driver of the Infinity, as well as Chen, have also been prosecuted for concealing a crime.
When the police investigated the car chase, Yang, a car mechanic, claimed he had been the driver of the Infinity, but later surveillance cameras showed he wasn't driving it. Then, Yang admitted the real driver was Lin, his boss. Lin had asked his wife and Yang to give false statements to the police, prosecutors said.
