Drop in number of road accidents
THE number of traffic accidents in the city in June had dropped 41 percent from the same period last year, the city government said in a statement yesterday. It attributed the drop in numbers to the ongoing crackdown on traffic offenses since March.
Meanwhile, the number of reports on traffic problems in June was also down 13 percent from March, with a “sharp drop of reports about illegal parking and congestion,” the government said.
The statement cited an opinion poll done by the city’s statistics authority which said that 87 percent of those surveyed expressed satisfaction about the positive changes brought about by the traffic crusade — 11 percent more people than in the survey in April.
The government said it will push the “lessons and achievements” from the campaign to be included in discussions on the revision of Shanghai’s traffic administration rules.
“The law enforcement has to be strict, legal and scientific,” it said.
