‘Drug driver hit cars, hurt officer’
A DRIVER has been arrested for allegedly hitting eight cars before attacking a police officer with a knife while high on drugs, prosecutors said yesterday.
The motorist, surnamed Feng, faces charges of endangering public security through dangerous actions, Jing’an District prosecutors said.
Feng is said to have told police that he had taken drugs in a KTV venue in Suzhou, in neighboring Jiangsu Province and afterward felt that someone was following him.
He then got on his car to lose whoever he believed was after him, according to prosecutors.
Feng came to police attention when he was allegedly seen driving erratically on the G2 Beijing-Shanghai Highway on January 6 and hit another vehicle, which crashed into the barrier.
He is said to have accelerated away and hit another seven cars as he traveled to Shanghai.
Feng was finally stopped by police when he was passing Jing’an Temple.
However, after Feng got out of his car he produced a knife and threatened police, said prosecutors.
One officer suffered a knife wound to his left hand in the incident.
Pu Hu, a prosecutor at the Jing’an District People’s Procuratorate, said that since Feng used a knife and injured a police officer, he faced more serious charges.
