Drug traffickers held by police

TWO men accused of trafficking more than 15 kilograms of methamphetamine were detained recently, police said yesterday.

Acting on a tip-off received in mid-July, officers from Putuo District identified two men they suspected of being the leaders of a drug trafficking gang.

Following several months of investigation, one of the suspects, surnamed Sun, was apprehended by police in Suzhou, east China’s Jiangsu Province, on October 19.

Officers said he had about 11 kilograms of methamphetamine in his possession at the time of his capture.

Sun’s alleged accomplice, surnamed Shi, was detained on November 5 after disembarking from a long-distance bus in Putuo.

Police said he was carrying more than 4kg of methamphetamine at the time.

Meanwhile, a man was recently detained after police allegedly found 400 grams of methamphetamine hidden in his car.

Officers’ suspicions were aroused when the driver of a vehicle that had been pulled over for a routine check in Songjiang District began acting strangely.

Since October, police have detained 589 suspects linked to 562 drugs cases involving 80kg of illegal substances.
