Drug user charged for hitting policeman
A WOMAN has been charged with assaulting a police officer after hitting him with an iron bar while under the influence of drugs, Baoshan District prosecutors said yesterday.
The incident happened after the woman, surnamed Shi, was taken into custody on October 26 after another woman, surnamed Zhang, called police to say Shi had been following her.
“She seemed to be drunk and had a faraway look in her eyes that scared me,” Zhang was quoted as saying.
When police questioned Shi about following Zhang, she said the two women were friends. But when Zhang denied knowing her pursuer, police took Shi into custody.
When Shi was asked to provide a urine sample she spat at a female police officer.
“I just remember a voice in my head telling me to spit so that I’d feel more comfortable,” she told prosecutors.
Soon after the spitting incident, Shi “suddenly jumped up” and began hitting herself with an iron bar she took from the corner of the room, prosecutors said.
They didn’t explain why there was an iron bar in the room.
When a police officer tried to take the bar from her, Shi hit him on the arm, causing him severe bruising, it said.
A urine test conducted later found traces of methamphetamine in Shi’s system.
Prosecutors didn’t say what punishment she might face.
