Earliest Osmanthus flowers for 30 years

SWEET Osmanthus came into flower in early September this year, the earliest for 30 years.
The variety was Osmanthus fragrans, an early flowering species of Osmanthus, said officials with Shanghai Botanical Garden. The first lowers were spotted last Saturday, Metro Express reported today.
Low temperatures during the summer were the major reason for the early blossom, said official Wang Yuqin, while rain in August and spring sunshine also helped.
