Electronic permits for Taiwanese
TAIWAN residents will be issued electronic travel permit from today, the Shanghai Public Security Bureau announced yesterday.
Taiwan residents can apply at the city’s exit-entry administration bureau offices and convert their paper passes to new computer readable cards, which is the size of credit cards. They can also keep using the paper document till their term of validity.
The cards, said to be more fortification-proof than paper ones, also leaves out the entry permit fields. In July this year, under the new simplified entry rules issued by the mainland government, Taiwan residents don’t have to apply for permit for making trips to the mainland.
“The new travel pass is the mainland’s latest move to facilitate Taiwan residents‚ travel to the mainland and live here,” authorities said.
