Kindergarten teacher arrested for swindling parents out of over 50,000 yuan
A TEACHER at a private kindergarten who swindled parents out of more than 50,000 yuan (US$7,824) by enrolling 34 children without the school’s approval has been arrested for embezzlement, prosecutors in suburban Jading District said.
The 28-year-old teacher, surnamed Li, was found to have taken tuition from parents of 21 children she enrolled this year and 13 last year.
According to prosecutors, Li, who began work at the kindergarten in September 2013, learned that some teachers made extra money by “enrolling” students privately into their class, taking advantage of some management loophole.
So when in August last year one of the parents wanted his child to enter Li’s class, she told him to give her the tuition fee directly, saying she would forward it to the kindergarten.
In the same way, she cheated 12 other parents last year and repeated the trick on 21 parents this year.
Her embezzlement came to the notice of the kindergarten’s owner when he was informed that the number of children in one of her class was 21 more than those registered.
