Exec goes missing after making graft allegations
POLICE have begun a search for a senior telecommunications executive who went missing on Wednesday after accusing his colleagues of corruption.
Jia Lining, human resources director at Alcatel-Lucent Shanghai Bell, was reported missing by his family, Xinhua news agency reported yesterday.
He had earlier accused 10 of his fellow executives, including company chairman Yuan Xing, of corruption and abuse of power, including seeking financial gains for their families, thepaper.cn reported.
The allegations were detailed in a letter posted to a WeChat group run by the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission, the report said.
At the end of letter, Jia wrote: “They have found out that I know about their scandals, and they plan to damage my reputation, using the excuse of fighting corruption.”
He claimed Yuan had already spoken to the commission about him.
Jia also sent a WeChat message to a friend saying: “See you in heaven,” the report said.
The unnamed friend and Jia’s wife later traced the executive’s car to Yangpu Bridge, it said, adding that police subsequently launched a search for the missing man.
The telecoms firm said yesterday it had alerted the commission to the incident.
Jia joined Alcatel-Lucent Shanghai Bell in 1998. The company was founded 30 years ago and currently employs about 15,000 people.
