Exec ‘stole diesel from pipeline’
A logistics company boss accused of stealing 14 tons of diesel from a pipeline to fuel his trucks has been arrested for larceny and destroying inflammable and explosive equipment, Minhang District prosecutors said yesterday.
In mid-June last year, the man, surnamed Li paid a car repairman 2,000 yuan (US$290) to drill into four pipelines of a gas company and install valves, they said.
They did not name the gas company.
Li used rubber tubes to connect three of the pipelines to his company nearby. But only one carried diesel, which he used to supply his trucks. The others carried gas.
He told investigators he opened the valve each day at midnight and closed it three to four hours later.
Initial investigations show he siphoned off 14 tons of diesel and caused losses to the other company of up to 2.47 million yuan, prosecutors said. He faces up to 10 years in jail if convicted.
