Execution for drugs trafficker

A MAN was executed yesterday for drug trafficking and holding guns illegally.

An earlier hearing at the Shanghai Rail Transport Intermediate People's Court heard that Chen Wei, a Sichuan Province native, was caught carrying almost 4,000 grams of drugs together with a partner, Wang Hong, by traffic police on a train bound for the city in June 2008.

Police later found three guns with 16 bullets together with 421.11 grams of drugs in an apartment rented by Chen and his girlfriend, Deng Jiayan.

She was jailed for five years. Wang Hong was jailed for life. Chen's driver, Wang Dianze, was jailed for nine years.

Zeng Guoxiong, who sold almost 3,000 grams of drugs to Chen, was sentenced to death with a reprieve. Another seller, Feng Bangjie, was given a life term.

Chen, 40, and Wang Hong were bringing drugs on a train from Chengdu to Shanghai on June 9 but were apprehended at Hangzhou Station.
