Exercises office workers like best
JOGGING and walking are most popular sport exercises among local office workers.
More than 30 percent of the nearly 1,000 respondents to a survey conducted by China International Intellectech (Shanghai) Co, a state-owned human resources service company, said they ran or walked for exercise, the most popular choices.
The survey report was released yesterday.
Their popularity was due to walking and jogging being easy to do and not needing expensive equipment, said the report.
Exercises, such as yoga, ball games and water sports like swimming followed walking and jogging as the most popular choices.
The report also showed that local office workers wanted to exercise as more than half of respondents said they exercised regularly and 20 percent said they did so on occasions.
These included 28 percent who took some form of exercise at least three times a week.
Keeping fit and relieving pressure were the two main motivations for people to do so, while social communication was the third reason.
The report added that the top three obstacles to exercising were lack of time, companionship and a place to exercise.
To try to resolve these problems and get employees to get away from their computers and phones, CIIC Shanghai has been organizing annual exercise contests among its client companies that have attracted more than 12,000 employees from nearly 500 companies this year.
Wang Yunting, a marketing communication supervisor of Sealed Air China, said the contests encouraged people to exercise as nearly 20 percent of those who responded to the survey said their rankings brought them a sense of achievement.
“But of course, you need to be willing to do exercise,” she warned any potential participants.
