Frenchman charged with molesting 6-year-old girl

A 48-year-old Frenchman has been charged with molesting the 6-year-old daughter of a foreign couple, the Qingpu District People’s Procuratorate has said.
Police said the man was the father of one of the victim’s classmates and sexually molested the girl when she was having a sleepover with his young son at his home.
The suspect’s name has been withheld by authorities.
According to prosecutors, last September 13, a Belgian man reported to police that his daughter had been molested during a sleepover at a friend’s house. His daughter said the figure of the nighttime molester who entered her room looked like the boy’s father.
The suspect was summoned to the police station but denied the charge in the first and second round of interrogation. However, police said he later confessed. He faces trial later this month.
“In China, the punishment for child molestation is generally a prison term of up to five years,” said a prosecutor surnamed Gao.
