Expat deported for phone theft

An expatriate who stole an iPhone 5 in a bar was fined 5,000 yuan (US$827) and deported, Huangpu District People’s Court said.
The 28-year-old expat was studying traditional Chinese medicine in the city. He stole the iPhone 5, worth 3,500 yuan, from a person he was just acquainted with in a bar on Huaihai Road. He hid it along with his belongings in another bar. When the owner found his cellphone missing, he watched the surveillance video and found the thief.
