Ex-principal gets 30 months for taking 523,000 yuan in school funds and bribes
A FORMER principal of a suburban middle school got 30 months in prison after he pocketed 460,000 yuan (US$75,072) school funds and took bribes adding up to 63,000 yuan, the Qingpu District Prosecutors' Office said yesterday.
Li Zhiming, a teacher of Chinese in a middle school in Qingpu District, was appointed as the principal in 2005.
Li gave the school’s construction projects to building contractor Wang Xin after taking 3,000 yuan from Wang in 2006, and he continued to accept money from him between 2006 and 2013, prosecutors said.
Li also hired Wang's son at the school after being paid 30,000 yuan. Bribes given to Li by Wang amounted to 63,000 yuan, the court heard.
Prosecutors said Li became greedy and started to earmark funds from local educational authorities for some made-up projects, pocketing the 460,000 yuan before he was caught last year.
