Ex-property agent sent fake bomb to client

A FORMER property has been jailed for 18 months for sending a fake bomb to a client following a dispute about fees.
The bomb hoax created panic in a residential building and saw around 30 families flee their homes, the Hongkou District People’s Court heard.
The defendant, surnamed Liu, bore a grudge against the woman who received the package after an apartment sale deal fell through.
His client, surnamed Zhang, had planned to buy an apartment for about 1.5 million yuan (US$242,000) for her son before his marriage, and visited the agency where Liu worked.
Liu showed Zhang an apartment that she liked and was confident a deal would be struck. But Zhang and the owner, surnamed Du, insisted on a fee of 15,000 yuan, while Liu’s manager wanted 20,000 yuan.
As a result, Zhang and Du completed the apartment sale at another agency for 6,000 yuan, the court heard.
Liu called Zhang demanding a fee of 30,400 yuan and when Zhang refused, saying no contract had been signed, Liu began started bombarding her with threatening phone calls and text messages, the court heard.
He went to her residential complex and daubed threatening messages.
Zhang offered Liu 2,000 yuan, but he refused this, the court heard.
Liu decided to scare Zhang by sending her a fake bomb made from two sand-filled cans, with wires and batteries attached.
This was delivered by the express delivery company that Liu later worked for, creating a panic when it was opened.
The Hongkou District People’s Court found Liu guilty of delivering fake dangerous items and disrupting social order, jailing him 18 months.
