FDA aims to publish inspections
LOCAL food authorities will tell Expo visitors and local residents the results of every food safety inspection in the Expo zone on billboards and via short messages, the Internet and local media.
It will also issue warnings on the risk of bacterial food poisoning under particular weather conditions, officials from the Shanghai Food and Drug Administration said yesterday.
The FDA is to inspect food preparation, processing, transportation, delivery and serving inside the zone. Results will be published in time to put pressure on the violators and alert Expo visitors.
"We developed a complete work plan for Expo food safety and relevant regulations and guidance to prevent and control food-related accidents and food poisoning cases," said Xu Jianguang, director of Shanghai Food and Drug Administration.
Xu said spot checks on restaurants around the Expo zone had already been carried out to identify potential risks.
