Fake brands bound for US seized by Customs

MORE than 1.12 million yuan (US$169,954) worth of counterfeit clothing bound for the United States has been seized by Shanghai Customs.

These had been ordered by an American, said customs officials.

On November 16 last year, Zhangjiagang Jindu Knitting Co Ltd in Jiangsu Province declared to the Waigaoqiang Port Customs a batch of clothes to be exported to the US.

But customs officers suspected that there was a high risk of intellectual property rights violation and opened the container for inspection.

Officers discovered 9,279 Juicy sports suits for women, 2,336 Puma sports suits for men and 4,843 The North Face coats. These were valued at around 1.12 million yuan.

Customs said that Andy Kim, a South Korean American, ordered the clothing and provided samples with the trademarks to the knitting company. US-based Rare Concept Inc was to receive the goods and perform the Customs clearance procedures, said officials.
