Family saved in nick of time
A toxic corn which was used to kill rats and mistakenly sold to an old man was retrieved from a cooking pot at the very last minute before dinner was served, police said yesterday.
A vendor reported to police in Putuo District at noon last Saturday that he had mistakenly sold a corn whose surface was smeared with rat poison to a customer and sought their help to get it back.
Police then searched for the elderly customer after locating him on surveillance videos and posted notices with screenshot in neighboring residential complexes.
Three hours later, a resident identified the old man as his neighbor and called the police.
