Father and daughter drown

A FATHER and daughter drowned after she jumped into a river in an apparent suicide bid and he followed in an effort to save her.
The tragedy occurred in Wanggang Village in Shangta Town in Qingpu District on Saturday afternoon.
Fang Maohua, 46, and his 15-year-old daughter, who was not named, are said to have been quarrelling and at around 2:40pm the teenager jumped into a nearby river.
Her father, said to have been chasing his daughter in a bid to stop her jumping, leapt in to try to save her.
However, their bodies were retrieved at 3:13pm, after police were alerted.
Paramedics pronounced them dead at scene.
The reason for the apparent suicide attempt is still under investigation.
On June 19, two teenage students drowned in a river in Jiading District trying save a schoolmate who had apparently jumped into the water to commit suicide.
