Fengxian to offer parking space for free
THE Fengxian District government will have 300 car parking spaces made available for free to the public during the National Day Holiday — the first local government to do so.
“We hope to make it convenient for people to park their cars temporarily when they visit parks, hospitals or shopping malls,” said Yang Xiaorong, director of the government’s safety and energy saving office. “It will be available on a first-come-first-serve basis.”
Yang said the decision was taken after the government recognized the fact that there was a lack of parking space as the number of car owners had increased. He said some political advisers had proposed that the parking spaces at government and office buildings also be made available to the public during holidays.
“We see almost everyday that cars are parked illegally on roads with traffic violating tickets stuck on the windows,” said Yang.
“It gets worse on weekends and holidays. It is not merely a problem of legal awareness, but a shortage of convenient parking places in the central district area.”
