Fines for fake plates

SHANGHAI traffic police handled 1,285 cases involving counterfeit car plates last year. The violators used fake plates or illegally falsified the numbers on real plates to avoid punishment after breaking traffic laws, police said. Some people had their cars impounded, others had points deducted from their licenses, while others were detained for up to 15 days, police said.
