The fire broke out shortly before 11am at the Shanghai Huanzhen Packaging Material Factory in Minke Road in Baoshan District.
It had almost been extinguished when the structure fell down shortly after 1pm while four firefighters were at the scene, xinmin.cn reported.
One was left critically injured and despite receiving emergency treatment was later pronounced dead.
Another firefighter was buried by debris and wasn’t found until after 5pm. He was also pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.
The other two firefighters sustained slight injuries.
