Fish die in river

ABOUT 1,000 crucian fish were found dead at the Pudong side of the Huangpu River yesterday due to their being improperly released yesterday.

Residents said they released the fish into the river in hopes of giving them a better environment. Fisheries experts, however, said the fish died due to high water temperature and the species' poor environmental adaptation ability. "Water temperature of the Huangpu River may reach above 28 degree Celsius in summer. That's too high for the crucian," said Wang Wu, professor with the Shanghai Ocean University.
